WATCH MAKERS' AND JEWELLERS' PICNIC.
& Trade picnics seem to' be the order of the •lay at present, and one of the most enjoyable of them was that of the watchmakers and jewellers, held yesterday at the Island of Motuihi. The steamer Eagle left the Queen-street Wharf about nine a.m., carrying down over 500 passengers, who were landed safely at the island where the utmost kindness find hospitality was ex tended to them by Mr. Heighten-- the resident in charge. With the exce[><;ion of a slight shower, the weather we* 1 t ery pleasant, and all appeared to enjoy "cnemselves extremely well. The chief attraction was, of course, the races, four prizes being awarded in each event. The following are the results : — 130 yards (apprentices) : Bailey, 1 ; Reynolds, 2 ; Haydon, 3; Watson, 4. Racket Race: Street, X; JYJundy, 2; 3; JOndeen, 4. 150 yards Trade handicap : Boyd, 1; Fielder, 2; T. Jones, 3; E. Jones, 4. Potato Race : Smith, 1; Logan, 2; Reynolds, 3; , Kirkman, 4. 440 yards (apprentices): Reynolds, 1 : Bailey, 2 ; Mcllhaney, 3; Haydon, 4. Girls' under 16: Reach, i ; Laver, 2; Taylor, 3; Sutton, 4. Married men's race : Woolford, 1 ; A. Bartlett, 2 ; Buchanan, 3 ; Martinson, 4. 440 yards Trade Handicap : Boyd, 1 ; Smith, '2; Fielder, 3; E. Jones, 4. Obstacle Race: Brooks, 1; Kirkman, 2; Bailey, 3: Denison, 4. 250 yards Open Handicap : Norris, 1 ; Goldwater, 2 ; McDonald, 3; McCullough, 4. Steeplechase: Reynolds, 1; Mcllhaney, 2 ; Denison. 3 ; Smith, 4. 100 yards (boys under 12) : E. W. Alison, 1 ; Wynward, 2; E. Alison, 3; Penzholz, 4. 50 yards (girls under 12): A. Smith, 1 ; Crafts, 2; Taylor, 3 ; Penzholz, 4. In the one-mile boat-race, which created considerable interest, the crew consisting of Goldwater, Reynolds, Fnrrington, Mcllhanoy and Brooke carried off the prize. The little ones were not forgotten, but races were provided for them also, abundance of toys being given away in prizes.
