After a passage of 102 days, during which more than the ordinary amount of rough ■weather was met with, the ship Persian Empire, under charter to the ft ew Zealand Shipping Company, arrived from London last evening, sailing into port under a stiff' easterly breeze and anchoring in the stream. The vessel brings a varied and valuable cargo, as given above. Captain C. W. Hay and the same officers who were with him last voyage have come out again in the Empire. The ship comes into port in splendid condition, having been cleaned and painted throughout, and bears but little trace of having travelled over some 16,000 miles of ocean, and havintr encountered a deal of boisterous weather to the southward. The Persian Empire left Auckland for London via Wellington last May, and made £>ne of the best homeward passages of the season. The details of her present voyage,* as supplied by the master, appears in our general news.
Early yesterday morning the schooner Three Cheers, Captain Cranch, arrived from Newcastle with a cargo of coal. She left the New South Wales coal emporium on January 23, and had light and variable winds on the trip across.
During yesterday the Union S.S. Company's Samoan steamer Wainui, completed the loading of her cargo of provisions, soft goods, timber, and live stock, and at about 5 p.m. she sailed for her various ports of call in the South Seas taking about a dozen passengers.
The tugboat Awhina, which has been* ceiving an extensive overhaul during the past few days went out for a trial spin yesterday evening in order to display her capabilities to the representative of the Sydney firm which has purchased her. Messrs. Donald and Edenborough expect their steamer Little Agnes from Noumea and Norfolk Island during the present week.
The s.a. Omapere with breadstuff's and general frieght from Oamaru, Timaru, etc., is expected to arrive here to-day. At Newcastle the Auckland brigantine Defiance is loading " black diamonds" for this port. On the completion of the discharge of her Southern grain at the Queen-street Wharf the schooner Louie is to go to the Thames to load timber lor Lyttelton. The barque Helen, from Whangaroa, and the barque Pactole, from Hokianga, both with timber, arrived yesterday at Sydney. The barque Madura has left Newcastle for here coal laden.
