POLICE COURT.—Tuesday.

[Before Dr. Giles, R.M.J Drunkenness. — Two men, both fu'3& offenders, were each fined us and costs, .or, in default, 24 hoars' hard labour. Affiliation Case. — William Follas waa charged with . having refused to provide for an illegitimates child, of which Jane Patrick was the mother and defendant the reputed father. This case had been adjourned from Saturday last. Dr. Laishley appeared for thq prosecution, and Mr. J. A. Tola for tihe defendant (Mr. O'Meagher, who appeared on Saturday, instructed by Mr.. I'ole, being occupied at the Huntly inquiry). Mrs. and - Miss Malone deposed that they had offered to adopt the child, and Rachel Patrick deposed that defendant had offered to provide money, but that was before the child was born. Defendant being recalled, denied that he had tried to settle the matter, but _ admitted that he had had an interview 'with the complainant in order to praventt Mrs. Malone taking the child. Mrs. Follas deposed that complainant had been in her employ, and had been discharged because she was in the habit of keeping late hours. She had noticed no familiarity between complainant and -witness's son. James. Follas, Margaret Follaa (wife of the defendant), and Sydney Slimm, also gave evidence. Dr. Giles reserved his decision-atiU Saturday morning. Another Similar Case. — Roberb G. Lendrum was charged with having failed to provide for an illegitimate child, «oE which Eugenie Alice Dixon is the mother, and defendant the reputed father. Mr. Theo. Cooper appeared for the complainant, and Mr. S. Hesketh for the defendant. Complainant deposed that she residediiu Sussex-street with her mother, and she had known defendant for about ten years. The child was born in September, 1889. Defendant was the father of the child, and he had promised to marry witness. TheCourb was then adjourned till next day.
