CANDIDATES FOR THE EDUCATION BOARD.

At the meeting of the City Schools Committee, held last night, considerable discussion took place as to tho gentlemen for whom the committee should vote at the coming election of threo members for the Board of Education. The question arose as to whether the three names should be selected on that occasion, or be postponed. Mr. FahrkMj proposed Messrs. Upton, Carr, and Motion, and said that, lie did so because he felt that the committee would be showing a feeling of goodwill by assisting the country districts, which complained of not being sufficiently represented, to get one of their men on the Board. At the same time, he said that he was aware that the country members could not attend very often.

The Chairman thought that they had better wait for a fuller meeting. At the last meeting they had nominated Messrs. Upton and Carr, but what ho had heard since made him feel sorry that they had done so. He was now of opinion that new blood was wanted.

Dr. Walker thought that the election had better be postponed, and indeed he was totally opposed to Mr. Farrell's proposition. One of the gentlemen proposed was deaf, and it was time he retired and made room for other blood. Some people thought they could not be done without. Although the committee had nominated Messrs. Upton and Carr they need not vote for them.

Mr. Karrkll was of opinion that they ought certainly to vote for those gentlemen whom they had nominated. A more levelheaded man than Mr. Upton, or a man more just both to town and country, could not be found. He thought that, as long as the blood was good it should not be drawn. It was finally resolved that the choice be postponed for a fortnight, and that all members be informed of the nature of the business then to take place.

The contract for metalling the flat is thrown upthe contractors losing their deposit. A horse had to be killed in consequence of one of its legs having been broken by a kick. The accumulated losses of the contractors amounts to some £30. This is to be regretted, as the road was in a fearful state in the winter, and sadly requires to be metalled.— [Mangawai Correspondent.] The Medical Annual advises practitioners to remember that when recommending Cocoa as a food and beverage for invalids, the name Cadbury on any packet of Cocoa is a guarantee of purity.
