£150 IN EIGHT DAYS.

TO THE EDITOR. Sib,—Considering the loud protests of economy and retrenchment made so recently by every candidate for a seat in Parliament, it becomes hard to believe that a large majority 'of the elected reformers could so coolly vote themselves £150 for an eight days' excursion to Wellington. It is a pitiable exhibition of the grasping tendencies of those who attempt to pose as patriots,* and a falsification of all their promises to retrench unless where it affects somebody else. —I am, etc., L. J. Bagnall. Turua, 2nd February, 1891.
