Pre« Association.— Telegraph.— SOUTH AUSTRALIAN LOAN. London, January 28. It is announced to day that the South Australian Loan of £1,200,000 at per cent., with minimum of 98, will be placed on the market on February 4. It is expected that the loan will realise a half per cent, premium. MR. JAY GOULD AND THE NEW YORK STOCK EXCHANGE. Washington, January 28. There is some excitement in New York at the action of Mr. Jay Gould, the well-known capitalist, who threatens to withdraw from the Stock Exchange, owing to a quarrel with the directors. COINAGE IN AMERICA Washington, January 29. The Opposition in the House of Representatives to the free coinage of silver is increasing. LAND LAWS IN BRAZIL. Rio de Janeiro, January 29. A measure similar to Ton-ens' Land Act has been made compulsory in Brazil. DEATH OF~A~GOVERNOR. London, January 28. The death is announced of Sir. T. Hardinge, K.C.8., Governor of Gibraltar. THE CONSPIRACY ACT. London, January 29. In the House of Commons, the Conspiracy Act was rejected by a majority of 36. THE GOVERNOR OF QUEENSLAND. London, January 28. Truth states that the Governor of Queensland wished to retire, but Lord Knutsford has prevailed on him to continue in office. MR, BRADLAUGITS CONDITION. London, January 28. Mr. Bradlaugh is unconscious. His doctors were, however, able to acquaint him with the action of Parliament in expunging the resolution forbidding him to take the oath. VICTORIA AND ~THE POSTAL CONVENTION. London, January 28. The French Government refuses to recognise the right of Victoria to terminate the postal convention except through England, and intends to surcharge that colony with 7d upon each letter passing through French territory. Italy also expresses surprise at the action of Victoria, but has not yet indicated what she intends to do. Mr. Raikes, Postmaster-General, advises. Victoria to' continue the Convention until the Postal Congress meets in Vienna.
