THE INSURANCE COMPANIES AND THE ELECTRIC LIGHT.
[BY TKI/KGRAPU.— I'ItF.SS ASSOCIATION. 1 Rerftok, Thursday. At a public meeting to consider the circular issued by the fire insurance companies re the electric light, a resolution was carried, that as during tho seven years past the insurance companies had only lost £200, and received between £7000 and £8000, their present action in threatening to cancel policies was arbitrary, unreasonable, unjust, and deserving of censure ; also that the meeting pledges itself to support any foreign company opening up business in Reefton. A committee was appointed to inquire into the method adopted at Blenheim to carry out local insurance, and after inquiry, to, if possible, establish a similar institution.
