London, January 27. In the course of his _ speech at Waterford, Mr. Parnell said the result of the Hartlepool election clearly proved that he had not imperilled the cause of Home Rule.

THE SUICIDE OF THE DUKE OF BEDFORD. London, January 26. In the House of Commons, Mr. Matthews, Home Secretary, in answer to a question, stated that he was quite satisfied with the manner in which the inquest on the Duke of Bedford had been conducted. PROPOSED CUSTOMS UNION. London, January 26. Mr. W. H. Smith is considering the propriety of inviting the colonies to confer with the Imperial Government on the question of establishing a Customs Union, with a view to the protection of trade. DOCKERS AND CO-OPERATION. London, January 26. The practice of co-operation among the dockers is growing. It is found that wages are higher and work is got through more quickly. THE RUSSIAN HARVEST.
