THAMES NEWS.

[BY TKLKGEAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Tuesday. A man, who represents himself as being- th Hon. Charies Edward Courfceney Leslie, was arrested by Constable Mitchell at Karangahake yesterday, charged with the larceny of a silver chain, valued at 20s> from the dwelling of Charles Quinn, of Kirikiri. He was brought to the Thames to-day, and will be charged at the Police Court in the morning. A meeting of the Thames Anti-compulsory Vaccination Society was held this evening, there being from 30 or 40 parsons present, His Worship the Mayor (Mr. James McAndrew) occupying the chair. Several speeches were made condemnatory of the present compulsory Vaccination Act, and it was eventually decided to petition Parliament to have the compulsory clauses repealed, and to leave the matter optional. In the event of Parliament not seeing its way clear to accede to this request, the petition includes a clause praying that an amendment be introduced to the present Act, to the effect that no parent having once paid a fine for not having his or her child vaccinated shall not again come under the compulsory clause. Steps will be taken to have the matter taken up in the various centres of the colony.
