Perth, January 21. There are now 400 men on the new goldfield, where two nuggets of l4ooz. and 40oz. have been found, and it is reported that another of 200oz. has been unearthed. The field is overcrowded, and only half of the men are doing well. One party of three men have died from thirst on the Ashburton field, and another party is missing.
DISEASE AMONG HOBSES. Sydney, January 21. An epidemic of what is known as "pink-eye has broken out in Sydney. The Omnibus Company have been compelled to reduce their service, 130 horses being stricken down. Several have died. THE REPORTED QUEENSLAND LOAN. Brisbane, January 21. The report that the Queensland Government intend to go on the London market is denied. MURDER OF A SAILOR. Sydney, January 21. A sailor belonging to the Iroquois was brutally murdered at Pagopago Bay. The body was dismemberecL A shipmate was arrested on suspicion. AFFAIRS AT SAMOA. Sidney, January 21. The German flagship at Samoa saluted Malietoa as King, thus completing public recoenition of his right by all the Powers. Mr. Justice Cedarkranz was enthusiastically received on his arrival, and created a favourable impression. THE FEDERAL COUNCIL. Hobart, January 21. Sir S. Griffiths has been elected president of the Federal Council. THE VICTORIAN HARVEST. Melbourne, January 21. The Australasian estimates the Victorian wheat crop at 17,985,000 bushels. After deducting home requirements, this will leave 10,042,C00 bushels available for export The estimate is based on an average of 15 bushels per acre. SHIPPING. Melbourne, January 21.
