VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.
The annual inspection by LieutenantColonel Hume, of the Engineers, Victorias, City Guards, Newton Rifles, Royal lrish > and Onehunga Rifles took place at the Drillshcd last night. The various companies were well represented, about 200 being present. The Engineers were under Major Anderson; Victorias under Lieut. R. L. Somers; City Guards under Captain Kohn ; Newtons, Captain Roberton ; Royal Irish, Lieut. Caulton ; Onehunga, Captain Leahy. After being closely inspected by Lieutenant-Colonel Hume the companies were handed over to their respective commanders who put them through various movements under the supervision of the Colonel. Before the parade was dismissed, Lieutenant-Colonel Hume presented the prizes won at the late Rifle Association Meeting to the lucky winners, and made a few remarks advising the younger members to follow the example .set them by those who had been so successful on the recent contests. The staff-officers present were Lieutenant-Colonel Shepherd, officer commanding the district; Majors Morrow and Tonks, and Drs. Dawson and Erson.
