The Turkish Minister who attempted suicide by inhaling gas and strangling himself at Vienna (not Washington, as stated yesterday), died to-day. THE CHICAGO EXHIBITION. Washington, January 18. The Chicago Exhibition will be opened on May 1, 1893. 1 FRENCH TAX ON SUGAR. Paris, January 18. The budget committee propose a surtax of seven francs on foreign and colonial sugar. GERMAN SUGAR BOUNTIES. London, January 18. The Standard says it is expected that Germany will shortly abolish the sugar bounties, and that Austria will follow her example. SHIPPING. Rio de Janeiro, January 16. R.M.s. Ruapehu arrived to-day • all well. London, January 17. The Duke of Buckingham, s.s., hat arrived in the Channel, all well. She made an excellent passage of 48 days rom Lyttelton.
