[BY TELEGRAPH.OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Thursday. At a special meeting of the Borough Council to-night it was decided nob to proceed any further at present with the steps that were being taken for the erection of more suitable Council Chambers. A half-caste named Walter Birch, of Warahoa, was charged at the Police Court to-day with attempting to commit rape upon a half-cast© woman named Maria Anderson, on the 29th of October last. On tho application of Sergeant Gillies a remand for eight days was granted, bail being allowed—accused himself in £100, and two sureties of £50 each.
