At the annual meeting of the Franklin Cricket Association, Mr. G. Mackey was elected secretary and treasurer. The Papakura, l'apakura Valley, and Drury Clubs have joined the association. _ The above match will not count as an association match. —[Own Correspondent.] WHAKATAXK V. OPOTIKI. This match was played at Whakatane on the Bth instant, and resulted in a win for Whakatane on the first innings by 210 runs. The Whakataneites have been at great pains to put down a good wicket this season, and their efforts wore crowned with success. Concrete was laid down, and on that matting was carefully stretched. The result was a perfect wicket. Opotiki won the toss, and sent their opponents in. Buckworth and Whetu batted first, but their stay was short. Buckworth slogged wildly at a good ball, and was clean bowled. Stafford tilled his place, and then Whetu foolishly ran himself out. llcenan joined Stafford, and the stand of the day was'made. Over 100 runs were put up. and all the bowling changes of Opotiki tried before a separation could be effected. At last Bates clean bowled Stafford with a beautiful big break. The retiring batsman had played grand cricket for his 55 runs. His pi ay" on the lop; side especially was very line. Walmsley came next, but played one to his leg, whence it rebounded to his wicket. Major Gudgeon put up 25 bv splendid hitting, making three of the best hits of the day for four each, which would have gone for six cadi hut for the boundary. 1). McGarvcy and Mitchell put up nine and seven respectively, and Hccnan carried out his bat for 13S. The innings closed for 270. Opotiki replied with (30, of which I regret being unable to give the individual scores. The bowling of Stafford, Hcenan, and Walmsley was very good. It must be admitted that Opotiki was placed at a disadvantage by not being accustomed to the fastness of the wicket. The Opotiki bowling was consistently good all through the rather severe test put upon it, and at no time did it go to pieces; indeed, the Opotiki men must be congratulated on the number of good bowlers they have among them. Of these G. Read, Bates, J. Bead, and Rawson were the best. An enjoyable day was spent, and the proceedings terminated with a most delightful dance, at which the Onotiki cricketers were guests.•*-[.A Correspondent.]
