Tim regular fortnightly meeting of the Parnell Borough Council was held yesterday evening. Present: Mr. H. B. Sealv (Mayor), Messrs. Coleman, Gay, Augur, Thorne, McCabe, Savage, and Gilmour. Mkaslks.—Dr. Kenderdinc reported two cases of measles in one family in St. George's Bay Road. Lkavk of Absicnce. -Leave of absence for a month was granted to Mr. McConnell, who was absent, in Waihi. Subsidy.The Property Tax Commissioner notified that he h id sent a vouefler to the Treasury for £140 P.?s (id, being 75 per cent, of estimated subsidy due to the Council under the Local Bodies and Powers Act, IMS";, and the Appropriation Act, 1.890. Sutton and Bennett, contractors, forwarded an order for payment to the secretary of the Taupiri Reserve Company, when due, of the amount now held in hand by the Council as a guarantee for completion of contract, and any further sums that may accrue on this guarantee account. The letter was signed by William Bennett and was accompanied by a letter from Mr. Claude, secretary of the company, asking whether the order would be accepted by the Council. Mr. Coleman proposed that the Council decline to accept, any order on account of Sutton and Bennett's contract. The motion was agreed to. Finance. —The statement of funds was as follows :—General account, dr., £118 lOd : water supply account, cr., £164 17s : water loan account, £1 18 10s 2d ; drainage loan account, £231 4s Til ; sinking fund, £556 ISs !)d ; drainage loan, .CIOO Ms 7d. Accounts amounting" to £98 7s 7d were passed for payment. This included a payment of £50 on account to the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. NEWTON. The Newton Borough Council met last evening. Present: Messrs. Ambury(Mnyor), Brown, Warnock, Webley, Donald, English. Cox, Cleghorn, and Tibbs. Wat km Consumption*.—The Town Clerk reported that he had examined the water meter on Monday, the 17th instant, and found the consumption for the week to be 70,000 gallons, and again examined on the 'Jltli instant, and found the week's consumption to be 82,000 gallons. Coi:nKsroxi>i:xeK. -- Letter from the -.or-(lenor.il returning the half-yearly balance-sheet of the borough for the halfyear ending ,'>oth September, which he had certified. From Superintendent Fen ton, of the Fire Brigade Station, in respect to lining and ceiling men's room : Referred to the Finance Committee to report as to cost at next meeting. Drainage ok Mackfxvir-strket.—The tenders for the drainage of Mackelvic-street came up for consideration. The Mayor stated that it was discovered that in the specification the concrete nodding of the pipes had been omitted. It was resolved that fresh tenders be invited, returnable at next fortnightly meeting. • I!icll.moii Hill. —Mr. Warnock called attention to the state of the road at this place. It had been damaged at. the last storm. The matter was referred to the Streets Committee. ONE IKJNG A. The ordinary meeting of the Oitehunga Borough Council was held in the Borough Council chamber last night. There were present: His Worship the Mayor (Captain M. Yates, in the chair), Messrs. Keehan, Hills, Bow, Mooncy, J. Shaldrick, Tapp, and Has tie.

Financial Statement.— The Town Clerk reported that at. the last mooting the credit balance stood at .1*145 17s -M ; paid away (luring the term, £40 19s '2d; paid in, £120 Os Sd : leaving u credit balance of £525 ISs Bd. Tenders.—The tender of -Mr. C. Webber was accepted for the lease of farm section 25a, for a period of 14 years, at the rate of £2 per annum. Footpath.—Mr. J. Shaldriek presented a petition from tho residents of Upper Queenstreet, asking that a portion of the footpath should be lowered and improved. It was resolved that the work bo done, on the condition that tho ratepayers pay half the cost. Fencing.—lt was decided that tenders should be called for the requisite fencing of the recreation reserve and tho approaches to the cemetery.
