CIVIL SITTINGS.
The civil business of the circuit sittings commenced this morning. One case was called in which Auckland readers will bo interested, the defendants being Auckland residents. This was the case of Sir Walter Buller v. Fallon and others, being an action to recover a sum of money under a bond. Mr. Skerrett appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr. Chapman (instructed by Messrs. llcsketh and Richmond, of Auckland) appeared for the defendants. It transpired, however, that the parties were not ready to go to trial, and the trial was postponed until next sit,tings. Tin; UNION S.S. 00.'s SKIFPKRS.
Consequent upon the promotion of Captain Edie to the ollioe of shipping master at Sydney, the following changes have taken place in command of the Union Co.'s steamers: —Captain Chatfield, of the Wairarapa, succeeds Captain Edie on the Mararoa; Captain Mcintosh, of the Te A nan, assumes command of the Wairarapa; Captain Todd, of the Mahinapua, takes charge of the Te Anau ; and Captain Richardson, of Banks' Peninsula, is appointed to the command of the Mahinapua. Captain Spinks, formerly of the Arawata, is now in charge of the Rotokino.
