_[BY TELEGRAPH.— OWN* CORRESPONDENT.] |f|V ■ Oi'OTiKi, Monday, The information against Stewart Bates for criminal libel upon the Rev. T. J. Wills, in in article published in the Opotiki Herald, Ma heard to-day, and tho bench intimated ihat they would commit Mr. Bates for trial it the criminal session of the Supreme Uourt to be held in March next. Bail was jjloweil to the defendant, Mr. Theo. hooper, with Mr. Elliott, appeared for the prosecution; Mr. Jones, of Gisborne, for defenee. The assault cases upon the chairman and member of the school committee, were then proceeded with, and will be continued to-morrow.
