Thk Australian Jockey Club were again favoured with splendid weather for their races, and the attendance was good. The Craven Plate notwithstanding that there were only four starters, was invested with unusual interest, and when Carbine, who wits favourite at 7 to 4, passed Megaphone at the distance, and won comfortably, he received a great ovation. The race was run at a great pace throughout, which may be gathered from the fact of the mile and a-quarter being cast behind in the great time of 2m. 7s. The finish for the Second Foal Stakes between Gibraltar and Gatling, was a tremendous one, the colts running a dead heat; but in the run off Gibraltar won by a length.

An unfortunate accident happened in the Suburban Handicap. There were twenty-six starters, and when coining round the bend into the straight three horses fell. Oue of them, Randolph, was so badly injured that he had to be destroyed. Two of the jockeys were very seriously hurt, and one of them is not expected to recover. The following are the resulte of the racing:—

Twenty-six horses started. A capital start was effected. Hurrah won by a length. Time, lm. 295. In this race three horses fell, and two jockeys were seriously injured. The poor form shown by Cuirassier hi the Craven Plate to-day has resulted in his receding in price for the Melbourne Cup, and he is now quoted at 100 to 4. Carbine has hardened, and remains first favourite at 8 to 1. Whimberel is also being nibbled at at 100 to 4.

Sydney papers to hand by the s.s. Tarawera show that prior to Gibraltar's victory in tlio A.J.C. Darby he waa backed to win the V. R.C. Derby for all the available money down to 6to 1. He was also supportedfor the Melbourne Cup, and wound up at 20 to 1.
