EPSOM SUMMER MEETING. The following are the details of the running in the two principal races decided at the Epsom Summer Meeting last month : The Derby Stakes of s(XX)sovs for the winner ; SOOsovs for the nominator 01 the winner; BOOsovs for the owner of the second ; and 2l)osovs for the owner ox the third; for three-year-olds ; colts, Ost; fillies, Bst 91b; by subscription of OOsovs each, hft if declared. Betting : 95 to 40 on Surefoot, 100 to 15 against Sainfoin, 100 to 7 each against Le Nord and Rathbeal, 50 to 1 each against Golden Gate and Kirkhain, 100 to I each against Orwell and Martagon. At the first attempt Mr. Coventry succeeded in despatching them on their journey to a good start. The first away was Rathbeal, closely attended by Orwell and Kirkhain, then came Sainfoin and Golden Gate, with Surefoot next, and Le Nord whipping in. Passing Slier woods, Orwell took 11 slight lead of Kirkham, with Sainfoin third in front of Golden Gate, these being clear of Surefoot and Le Nord. At the mile post Orwell was showing »the way, the pace being poor, from Golden Gate and Sainfoin, with Kirkhain fourth, in front of Rathbeal, with Le Nord now last behind Martagon. At the top of the hill, about six furlongs from home, Golden Gate and Sainfoin took close order with Orwell, Rathbeal going on fourth, with Kirkham and Surefoot next. As they descended M"' lull for eorner the pace improved, and Sainfoin took a slight lead of Orwell and Golden (late, then came Surefoot and Rathbeal. Sainfoin, on the lower ground, came into the straight in front of Orwell, with Rathbeal and Martagon next, and Surefoot about three lengths behind. A <iuarter of a mile from home Orwell resumed the lead, followed by Sainfoin and Rathbeal, with Surefoot at the heels of the latter, and Le Nord, on the right, making up his ground. Below the distance, Surefoot, who had been trying to savage several of Ills horses, was seen to be in difficulties, and Orwell shortly afterwards was joined by his stable companion, Sainfoin, who in another few strides went to the front, and always having the best of Le Nord, who came with a rare rattle at the finish, won, amidst loud cheering, by three-quarters of a length ; a neck separated second and third ; ami' a head oil" the latter, Surefoot was placed by the judge fourth.

Mr. Coventry was fortunate enough to send them on their journey at the first attempt. The quickest away was Semolina, closely followed by Ponza, Albertine, and Shall We Remember, with Signorina next, in front of Memoir, with Star last. After passing the mile post Shall We Remember made her way into second place, Ponza going on third, just in front of Signorina, with Memoir next, and Star last. At the top of the hill Memoir passed Signorina and Ponza, and went on third down the hill, with Signorina lying fourth. Over the road in the straight Signorina deprived Semolina of the commaud, whilst Memoir took closer order on he outside, with l'onza next; but below the distance Semolina was in trouble, and Memoir drew up to Signorina, and assuming the command, shortly afterwards took up the running, and holding the lead to the end, won easily by three-quarters of a length ; two lengths separated second and third, Semolina was fourth. WANGANui jockey CLUB. The Wanganui Jockey Club hold their annual meet oil Friday next. It will be for the club to select one from the number to till the otliee.
