Messrs. L. D. Nathan & Co. have received cable advice to the effect that the R.M.s. Tainui sailed from Plymouth for Wellington and Lyttelton on June 11. Her Auckland cargo and passengers will be transhipped from the former port. About half-past eight o'clock yesterday morning the Union S.S. Co 's Arawata arrived from Oamaru with a large freighting of breadstuff's, produce, etc. Mr. Munro, the purser, states that she left Oamaru on the 17th at 1 a.m., and passed Akaroa at noon the same day. Cape Palliser was abeam at 5.30 a.m. on the 18th, and the East Cape rounded about noon the following day, and port reached as above. The Arawata experienced fine weather and variable winds throughout. Under the heading of "An Uncharted Rock" the Sydney Morning Herald recently chronicled the alleged discovery by Captain Knudsen, of the Norwegian barque Kingboom, of a sunken roc's north of Savage Island and north-east of Tonga in hit. 18.0. 'j., long. 168.130 W., which he asserted was aot marked on the chart. We are informed by Mr. J. 1. Arundel, whose knowledge of "Pacific waters is very well known, that this dangerous obstruction to navigation has been reported previously, and is known to mariners trading in those seas, and has been moreover plainly indicated on the Admiralty charts for about 2£ years. Mr. Arundel surmises that the chart used by Captain Knudsen must have been one of old date. The barque Madura, Captain Davis, arrived coal-laden from Newcastle yesterday morning, being towed into port by the p.s. Osprey. She sailed from Newcastle June 4th, and had light winds and calms till making the Three Kings on the 17th. Strong westerly breeze*, which afterwards veered into the S. and S.E., were had down the coast. At an early hour yesterday the s.s. , A coasting cutter, the Turanga, drifted against the Railway Wharf yesterday mornins and broke away her mainmast. About half-past one o'clock yesterday the well-known brigantine Aratapu, Captain Bowers, arrived from Newcastle with 178 tons coal. She made a good passage of 13 days, having sailed on the 7th instant. Fresh N.E. orcezes were had to the Three Kings, which was passed early on the 18th ; thence to port westerly and S.E. winds prevailed ill succession. r . The barques W. C. Wentworth, for Kaipara, to load, and the Andrea Wilhelmina, laden with timber for Hull, are lying in the stream in readiness to sail. Private advices to hand from Launceston announce the sale arrival thereof the brigantine Lady Mabel, from Howland Island, with guano. Yesterday afternoon a third vessel arrived from Newcastle with coal, being the schooner Three Cheers, Captain Bushel! She sailed on the 9th instant, and hail similar weather to the Madura and Aratapu. She brings I.'kS tons of coal for Messrs. C. F. James and Co.
