A ROTORUA LAND CASE.
[by telegraph.— own correspondent.] Rotorua, Saturday. The Native Land Court has for some days been hearing applications for subdivisions of the Tumu Kaituna block. The owners of this block, which is near Maketu, had been ascertained by a previous Court, and tha land awardedtwo-thirds to the Ngatiwhakaue and Ngatitunohopu and one-third to Ngatirangiwewehi, Ngaciuenukukopako and Ngatirangiteaorere. The present Court had to allocate the interests. _ The flax growing on the banks of the Kaituna River gives value to the block, which one party wished to monopolise. The Court, which gave its decision yesterday, found that, although the party had a smaller area than the other, it did not follow that that party should have all the land as well. 1920 acres were cut off on the upper portion of the river for the three tribes. The other two tribes who wished to monopolise the flax are, of course, dissatisfied, whilst those who consider that justice has been done are equally pleased. The orders of subdivision in Whakapaungak'au have been confirmed, and a new one made out for a school site at Te Nga.
