I*he Bishop of Salisbury, speaking the other day on the occasion of the reopening of Pewsey Church, is said to have stated that, A3 one of the Archbishop's assessors in the Ease of the Bishop of Lincoln, he wished to Remark that the judgment, which would be ielivered early next month, would be the Judgment of all these working with the £xeh bishop. They would speak plainly and Dpenly on the points at issue, and he would ask the clergy to accept their judgment patiently and loyally, to make it acceptable to themselves and others. The Archbishop Df Canterbury, in reply to an inquiry as to remarks said to have boon made by the Bishop &f Salisbury at Pewsey, writes :—" I do not think that the Bishop can have made the observations which, in a very condensed report, seem to be attributed to him, as to the Sate, matter, or manner of the judgment to be delivered in the Lincoln case ; and it Would be obviously unsuitable for me, as a judge, to make any statement, or to answer uny questions with reference to a suit still pending." Lord Victor Seymour, the rector Bf Carshalton, has, according to the |<ondon correspondent of the Manchester Guardian, gone so tar as to state in public iibat it will be impossible for the Primate to fondemn the Bishop of Lincoln, as he has )imself been present as Bishop and ArchSishop at services where everyone of the -called illegal points have been carried .rat, and whilst Bishop of Truro he permitted the singing of the Benedictus and ,\gnus Dei at the choral celebration, which abolished when Bishop Wilkinson came fom St. Peter's, Eton Square, to Truro. '*nly last year were late choral celebrations iatituted at St. Peter's, as Bishop WilkinOn, when vicar, only allowed them once a Couth at the early service.
