CONFERENCE OF WEST COAST LOCAL BODIES.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION'.] Hokitika, Friday. A conference of local bodies on the West Coast was held here last night, the bodies represented being Buller, Grey and Westland County Councils, Hokitika, Kumara and Ross Borough Councils, Grey and Westland Charitable Aid Boards, Westland Education Board, and Hokitika Harbour Board. Twelve resolutions were carried, the principal one being, " That the present counties on the West Coast should remain intact, and also that there were too many local bodies, leaving to the Government to say which should be done away with." A strong feeling was manifested against amalgamating any of the counties indicated.
There wore 'three women in the lock-up last evening : Jane Macaulay, for malicious injury to property ; and Jessie Wingate and Maria Drummond, for obscene language.
