DUNKDIN OATS. DuxKrtlN, May 28.— market during the past week has not in anv way improved, and fewer sales have been effected. Odd lots to retailers are being occasionally placed at quotations, but to induce either shippers or millers to purchase lines, a concession on late quotations would have to be submitted to. .Most growers of consignments now in store still hold out for higher prices, but as even present reported prices are beyond shippers' limits, there is considerably less business doing Quotations for bright stout milling Is id to Is 5d ; best stout feed, Is M to Is 3Jd ; medium, Is 2*d to Is 3d ; inferior, Is to Is Id (ex store, sacks extra).

Mav2B.—Cattle market: The weather to-day was cold and dull, but there was a good attendance of business men, and the sale of fat stock was brisk, as directors enforced punctuality in the commencement of each section. The sale was got through in a businesslike manner. Store sheep : There was onlv a moderate entry, consisting chiefly of a class of 'mixed breeds most suitable for putting on turnips for finishing off. These sold, according to quality, from ,\s Oil to lis Bd—the latter being a good "line of two and four-tooth. Some aged merinos, only tit for boiling, sold at cheap rates. Fat lambs : 'the demand for lambs for export showed a great decline on former markets, and, as local requirements are very small, the business done was limited to a line of best freezers, and reached 17s 3d, but 13s tid was the next best price secured, and butchers" lambs brought from 0s to Bs, accordin« to quality, fat sheep : There were over WOO v irded, and of these there were only a small proportion of prime wether mutton. These opened well at from lr>s M to 17s ; but later on some heavier sheep brought 22s tid. There were a great many secondrate ewes on hand, and the demand for them was not good. Prices for mis class suffered a decline of from Is to Is ad per head, but prime wethers held their own throughout, Fat cattle : The entry was very small indeed—a line of ninety bullocks from Wanganui bavins arrived too late for yarding arid being held over till next week. There was no prime quality beef on hand, and the average of (hat sold realised much about the same prices as have prevailed of late, viz., ltis to ISs per 1001b. Store Cattle : There were many more store in this section than last week, but the demand was no better, and a good many m.-re were unsold. JOHNSONVILLE. Messrs. Freeman R. Jackson and Co.'s stock report (telegraphed on Wednesday).—The entry of beef was moderate, ranging in quality from decidedJv indifferent to fair ; good sorts were well competed for, others were neglected. A portion of the sheep entries were medium, the remainder totally unfit for the butcher, Pigs of choice description occupied the pens, b;iconersand porkers being in fair demand.
