LAW AND POLICE.
POLICE COURT.—Saturday. • [Before Dr. Giles, B.M.] Drunkenness.—One person was punished for a first offence. Mary Ann Baker, as an habitual drunkard, was sentenced to one month's imprisonment with hard labour. Vagrancy.—John Ross pleaded guilty to having been found at night without lawful excuse in an unoccupied house in Wyndhamstroot. ' He said he was destitute, and had tried to get a living by selling papers, but could nob do so. His Worship said that prisoner should have applied to the proper quarter for relief, and sentenced him to seven days' imprisonment with hard labour. Destitute Persons.—Martin Murphy, who pleaded guilty of having failed to comply with an order of the Court that he should contribute bo bho maintenance of his family, was discharged on the understanding that he should pay into Court £3 which he had in his possession. John and David Parkor were charged with having neglected to provide for the support of their father. The defendants admitted tho charge, but said it was understood that their father was to go to the Refuge. Dr. Giles said the order of the Court must be obeyed, and the case was adjourned for a week to give an opportunity for the payment of the arrears.
