He batted in faultless style, and was at the wicket upwards of three hours. Blackham knocked up his score of 75 in an hour. It included fourteen boundary hits. He gave two chances, both difficult ones. Surrey tried seven bowlers, the best being Sharpe, who secured five wickets for 62 runs. In their second innings Surrey made 156, the principal scorers being Shuter and Wood, each 33, Maurice Reid, 29. The fielding of the Australians; was very good. Lyons took five wickets for 58 runs, Ferris four for 65. Turner was tried, bub did not come off. The Australians require 79 runs to win. Thirteen thousand were present at the match to-day. London, May 24. The Australians defeated Surrey by eight) wickets. Lyons played a dashing innings for 24. Both Trott and Murdoch carried out their bats for 30 and 17 respectively.
