AUCKLAND WORKING MENS FRIENDLY AID SOCIETY.
This Society celebrated its 18th anniversary at the Oddfellows' Hall, Parnell, last evening. The proceedings began with a soiree, which was largely attended by the members and their families. At eight they adjourned to a concert, at which Mr. Moss, the member for the district, was to have presided, but apologised through the chairman of the Society, Mr. Emery, as he luul been obliged to leave in order to attend the meeting called by the Tailoresses' Union at the Academy of Music, in Auckland. The concert was a great success. The following is the programme Address by the Chairman of the Society, Mr. Emery; selection (piano), Miss Fitz ; song (comic), Mr. Double ; song, " Two Little Heads," Mr. 'League ; song (selected), Mrs. Hodgson; song (comic), Mr. Birdsall; song, Maid of the Mill," Mr. Ellis; song, " Lover and Bird," Mrs. Maxwell; song and dance (Irish), Mr. McDermott; selection (violin and piano), Mr. and Miss Mitchell; song, " Love's Golden Dream," Miss Turk ; hornpipe (double), Messrs. Adair and Fordyce; song, "Call Me Back Again," Mr. 'League; song (selected), Miss Martin; song, Mr. Birdsall; song and dance, "Going to be Married Next Sunday," Mr. Adair. The hall was then cleared for dancing, which was kept up till the small hours. The secretary, Mr. Snodgrass, announced that the annual meeting of the Society would take place on the second Monday in June.
