We are informed by cable that the; has been a run on the Melbourne Sa' ings Bank, but that the movement hf abated. There are Post Office Saving Banks in Victoria, but the bank in que; tion is evidently a bank established b the Commissioners of Savings Bank These Commissioners are appointed b the Governor-in-Council, and have th general control of these banks, as we as the sole management of the fund which are invested in the colon Friendly societies and charitable inst tutions are authorised bylaw to depos money in these banks. The tempore run which has taken place has probab been caused by the uncertain feeli? created by the disclosures in regard the Premier Permanent Buildii Society. That concern carried a lari amount of money belonging to tf working classes, and it is perhaps nc to be wondered at that many of thei thought that if that society wen wrong with a Minister on the director there was no security even for the savings bank. We give elsewhere an account of the proceedings in this case of the building society.
