THE DUNEDIN BENEVOLENT TRUSTEES.
| [by telegraph.—press association.] I Wellington, Wednesday. A deputation from the Caversham Council waited on the Benevolent Trustees, to-day, to ascertain why the name of Silva, the deceased leper, had not been included in the list of recipients of relief in the borough. After considerable discussion, the Chairman said the trustees declined to establish a precedent, that they were bound to give details of every act to any local body ; they also did not consider that in paying a person to look after the leper they were giving any charitable aid. The trustees decided to ask the Government to introduce a clause in the Act conferring power to dispose of property bequeathed to them, the Registrar having given notice that he could not pass such transactions in future, thus causing a number of small properties the trustees had by them to be useless.
