NEWS FROM ROTORUA.
[by TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Rotorua, Saturday. A report comes in from the Kaingaroa Plains recently leased by Mr. Jonathan Brown from the Government, that the sheep are thriving remarkably well, being completely free from any disease. The fly appears to be their only enemy, but the careful manner in which the shepherd tends his flock by the erection of pens, and gathering them in repeatedly for Jagging, completely overcomes this. Their principal run is on the western side near Ohaki, bounded by the Waikato River, a district which is rich In pasture and well watered. In fact, there Is room for thousands more. The shepherd has written for another mob of sheep and a hundred head of cattle. Doubtless the great loss which attended sheep-grazing in former days on these plains, erroneously attributed to some poisonous herbs, was caused simply from want of attention on the part of the shepherd to the ravages of the fly. From the Wai-o-tapu Valley we hear of a constant stream of visitors to that {most Interesting place, but from the short time given, some three or four hours, it is impossible for tourists to form any idea of the fcxtent and multitude of the beautiful thermal wonders there to be seen. It would require fully a week to do it. The stampede fashion in which this valley is visited at present is simply ridiculous, and is sure to be disappointing.
