THE AUCKLAND RACING CLUB'S AUTUMN MEETING.
NOTES AND ANTICIPATIONS. [BY I'HA KTON. ] Everything; seems to promise well for the success of the opening ot the A.R.C. Autumn Meeting at. Ellerslie" to-day. With the exception of the St. Leger Stakes, which event, owing to the owners of Cissy and Quadrant both electing to pay forfeit, will resolve itself into a walk-over for -Mr. Gollan s colt Tirailleur, large held* are engaged in all the events, and the open character of the various contests surrounds them with the greatest interest. The first race is set down to be started punctually at one p.m. ; and as the St. Leger is practically knocked out of the programme, the day's amusement, should be brought to a conclusion in time to allow of visitors returning to town before six p.m. His Excellency the Governor (Lord Onslow), and the Countess of Onslow have signified their intention of gracing the proceedings with their presence, and it would seem to only require tine weather to make our Autumn Meeting this vear a most pronounced success on every head. 1 may remark that ladies are to be admitted free to the course, and the Railway Department, has arranged to attach special carriages to each train for their accommodation. . .
