BOWLING TOURNAMENT.
[BY TELEGRAPH.—I'KESS ASSOCIATION'.] . Wellington, Saturdiy. The rink tournament commenced this morning, about nine o'clock, on the Wellington Howling Clubs green, which was in almost perfect condition, and which gave entire satisfaction to the players. The attendance of the public throughout the day was large, and the weather was all that could be wished. General regret was expressed at the absence of the Auckland teams, who missed the train at New Plymouth yesterday, and will not be able to reach town till to-night. Some of the games in the tournament were very close, particularly between Paul's (New Plymouth) and Young's (Wellington) teams, the former, at the head of a comparatively weak team, managing by sheer generalship to score a decisive victory of '27 to 11. The slab matches were also productive of a good ileal of excitement. The game between Napier and Wellington was only won by the former by two points, the result being in doubt until the last two shots only. -1 he first round of the tournament finished to-day, and the following teams remain in:— Uixford, Stubbs, and Ashton (Napier) drew lahnerston North, Wix (Nelson), Paul and Jones (New Plymouth).
