The last season's record for the first year in which the club played as seniors was —-7 matches played, 1 won, 2 drawn, 3 lost, 1 undecided. Twenty new members wore elected to the club, and officers appointed for the coming season. Mr. L. Hill received Mr. Lennard's trophy for best play during last season. As was anticipated, the forming of a senior club at Devon port under the name of Pirates has not met with the approval of all the Rugbeians on the " Shore," and a second meeting has been held in order to endeavour to have the name altered to " North Shore," when a number of players who are at present holding aloof are expected to join, and thus form a very strong combination with both senior and junior teams. It is probable that this arrangement will be agreed to by the Pirates under certain conditions. The Wanderers, Native Rose, and Orient Football Clubs, which were last year the three strongest teams of the Second Junior Rugby Union, have decided to enter this season as First Juniors, and will compete for the A.R.U.'s second cup. This accession to its ranks will be gladly welcomed by the Rugby Union, and the Juniors are to be commended for their spirit. Yesterday the children of the Wellosloystreet East School held their annual athletic sports in the Domain, and a very successful gathering took place, it being estimated that there wore fully 700 children on the ground. The programme of races was a very lengthy and diversified one, and each of the events was koenly contested. The teachers were very energetic in controlling and arranging the various races, the ladies supervising the girls' sports, while the male teachers officiated in regard to the l>oys. The school cup was the principal event of the day, and was won by Frank Wiseman. The Napier-street school had a very enjoyable aquatic gala in the Freshwater Baths on Wednesday. The girls' events were decided in the forenoon, under the supervision of Misses Blades and Edwards, the chief events being won by Kate Reynolds and Amelia Lawson. The boys assembled in the afternoon, Messrs. Thwaites and Heenan being in charge. W. Cosaar was the hero of the sports, winning no less than #ix events, though well handicapped. G. Scott was successful in two races, and W. Cato and A. Dunningham secured a prize each, besides trying for a third event.
