"ODI PROPANUM VULGUS."
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —What a relief it is in these degenerate dh,ys to rind at least one level-headed man who is proof against the frothy rant which captivates the profane rabble. Dr. Laishley'a letters save one from despair. If it were nofr for him, and Huxley, and Pontius Pilate, it) is hard to say what these demoralised ruffians, with their insane twaddle aboutf " natural rights," would bring us to. Let u3 hope that our landed aristocracy will recognise in him their future Beaconsfield, aiid under his leadership we may yet retain, nob only our present rights," but even perchance regain some of those glorious '' privileges" which in the good old times (before that scoundrel Rousseau poisoned the ait with his pestiferous, nonsense) belonged naturally to our order, by virtue of the natural inequality of man." Let me recommend to Dr. Laishley the perusal of these lines from an author he has not yet quoted. They should _ animate his ardour and kindle bis enthusiasm :— " Ntvons done on repos. ** '' Alais l'on m'ose parler (fimpots ! " A I'iStat, pour son bien, " Un gentilhotnme ne doit rieu. " Et pouple animal— "Porte encore le hat ftjodal " Seuls nous chasserons, " Et tons vos t-endrona " Subiront l'honnour " T)u droit dn seigneur. "Chapeaubas! Chapeau bas ! " Olo.re au marquis de Carabas !" Parbleu ! Doctor, 5a ira.—l am, &c., Aristos.
