Clans- . man left with passengers and cargo for Rus- * sell and Northern markets, while the s.s. lonooieparted for Tauranga at 5 p.m. Shortly after;• 1 o'clock yesterday, the s.s. Tarawera, Captain" Sinclair, arrived from Melbourne, way of Hobart and the South, 1 with passengers and cargo as detailed above. The purser, Mr. C. H. Humphries, reports that the steamer left Melbourne on February . 18th, called at Hobart on the 20th, Bluff on the 24th, Dune din on :the 26th, Lyttelton on the 27th, Wellington on the 28th, arriving at Napier at 4 p.m. on -March Ist; she left at 9.30 p.m., and reached Gisborne at 6 a.m. on the 2nd, sailing for Auckland at 12.30 p.m., . and " arriving at the wharf as above. The Tarawera experienced fine weather up the coast. Home advices to hand by the San Francisco ; mail state that the Shaw, Savill, and Albion ■ Co.'s ship Margaret Galbraith was loading at London for this port, and was expected to leave the East India Docks about February 10. ' • Last evening the coastal schooner Queen arrived from Hokianga, via Ohora and Mangonui, with a freight of 40 hides, 2 bundles sheepskins, and 3.3,700 feet timber. She left Hokianga on the 21 at February, called at Ohora on the 23rd, leaving on the 25th. Mangonui was reached on the 26th; and on the Ist March the :• schooner sailed for Auckland, and arrived as above, after a fineweather trip. 1 At ; the J&ailway. Wharf yesterday the brigantine Sarah Pile was busily loading for Rarotonga. She will sail to-day. : The Auckland consignments of the cargo of the ship Merope, now at Dunedin, from r Glasgow, are being forwarded with, all despatch by the Union S.S. Co.'a boats, and Messrs. L. D. Nathan and Co. received the first instalment by the s.s. Tarawera yesterday. The same steamer brought up?tt»nshipments ox the R.M.s. Ruapehu at Wellington. ■Owing to the delay in the arrival of the barque | : Willowbank,, from Rockhampton, the local agents for the Shaw-Savill and ■:; Albion Company have decided that the ship ;;.. Pleiades which completed her discharge at the end °, last week, shall precede the Willowbank on the berth for London. Accordingly the Pleiades yesterday began to fill up, and took in a quantity of gum. As a considerable amount of colonial goods have been for some time awaiting shipment, she will Have prompt despatch. : The hour of the s.s, Wellington's departure for Whangarci to-night has been altered . from .10.30 p.m. to 8 p.m., and passengers will do well to note the change. • _' During yesterday the Union S.S. Co.'s " island packet Arawata was busily engaged in taking in a mixed cargo for her regular ports at Fiji, and at 5 p. m, she sailed for Suva, with several passengers. Instead of the barque Glenlora, which was reported ;on i the berth for Auckland, the Shaw-Savill and Albion Company have des.patched the barque lone, which sailod with a general cargo on January 13. The Glenlora was to sail on January 31 for Nelson / : V .■; and'Timaru.:;'.

The coastal 'schooner VVaiapu has hauled alongside the No. 2 Jetty for the purpose of dismasting her spars and masts with a view to repairs and refitting. . ■ ■ ■ ■ : An announcement elsewhere calls for tenders for the purchase of the hull and gear of the barque Splendid, as she now lies at Port Albert. -

■ THE BARQUE LEVUKA. ' '. Yesterday forenoon the German vessel Levuka reached port from Hamburg via Dunedin with a mixed cargo. As some explosives were included amongst her freight, the barque anchored at the -Powder Ground, and will,; after discharging her dynamite to-day, berth at the Queen-street Wharf. Though a vessel with direct freight from Hamburg is an infrequent visitor to Auckland, the Levuka is not altogether a stranger in this port, as she was here in 1885 and 1887, being then in charge of Captain Hansi, since deceased. The Levuka is an iron barque of 436 tons, and comes into port in excellent condition. Captain Strohsal, who makes his first visit to Auckland In the present voyage, reports that the i vessel left Dunedin on February 23rd, and experienced light variable winds to the East Cape, which was rounded on the Ist inst. From that point to arrival fresh south-east and north-east breezes were j had. The pilot was picked up about nine o'clock yesterday, and' under his direction the vessel sailed up to her anchorage about an hour later. On completion of the discharge of her cargo, the Levuka will proceed to vavau to load up there with copra for Hamburg.
