ALLEGED BLACKMAILING BY FINANCIAL JOURNALISTS. London, J anuary 22. The jury having disagreed in the case of Marks and Woolf, committed for trial on the charge of blackmailing the Transvaal Mining Company, it is unlikely a new trial will be ordered. THE VICTORIAN~DIVORCE BILL London, January 22. Lord Knutsford states that assent to the Divorce Bill of Victoria and New South Wales is postponed until the opinion of the Governments of the colonies, named is obtained as to the possibility of 'making the length of domicile similar in both colonies. MR. PARNELL'S ACTION AGAINST THE TIMES. London, January 21. Mr. Parnell's action against the Times has been further postponed till the 3rd of February. THE ANTWERP WOOL SALES. London, January 22. At the Antwerp wool sales the bidding was flat, and the attendance was only moderate. The. prices realised show an all-round fall of 10 per cent, on the closing rates of the November sales. Two thousand bales were offered, of which 1160 were sold. THE NEW ZEALAND LOAN AND MERCANTILE AGENCY CO. London, January 23. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company has declared a dividend of 10 per cent, and carried forward £20,000 to the reserve fund. £13,000 have been carried forward. SOCIETY OF ARTISTS' CONVERSAZIONE. London, January 22. Three thousand persons attended a conversazione given by the Anglo-Aus-tralian Society of Artists. The collection of 150 pictures intended for the Exhibition at Sydney was much admired. Princess Louise will probably be an exhibitor. LONDON MUSEUMS AND SUNDAY OPENING. London, January 22. At a conference of delegates appointed by the London Trades Council and other operative clubs, held in this city, it was decided to urge the opening of public Museums on Sundays. A number of gentlemeu have offered to pay the additional expense incurred by the adoption of this change for one year. THE FORTH"BRIDGE. London, January 22. The Forth Bridge has been tested satisfactorily. THE LATE LORD NAPIER. London, January 23. Amongst those present at the funeral of Lord Napier of Magdala were the Prince of Wales, Prince George, and the Duke of Cambridge. HENRY GEORGE. London, January 22. Henry George, the author of " Progress and Poverty," etc., has started for Australia, via San Francisco. THE INFLUENZA EPIDEMIC. London, January 22. The employees at Lysaght's galvanised iron foundry have struck to compel the expulsion of non-Unionists. THE DOCKERS CONDEMNED. London, January 23. Ex-Lord Mayor Whitehead condemns the action of the London dockers in making demands for further concessions. PUGILISM. London, January 22. Slavin refuses to accept the challenges thrown out by McAuliftb. He states that he will fight only with Sullivan, or the winner of the Sullivanmatch. London, January 23. The committee of the Pelican Club has been reinstated. The report is not correct that the committee has resigned in consequence of the resolution passed by a large majority at a general meeting of the club, desiring that further inquiry should be made into Mr. Abington's behaviour in connection with the Slavin-Smith prize fight.
