LABOUR DISPUTE AT CHRISTCHURCH.
m [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Christohuuch, Friday. Messrs. Porker and Tiubk have replied to a deputation of the Trades and Labour Council that they cannot work their factory under the log proposed by the Tailors' Union, as they consider it compiled on an ancient system of manufacturing, and would prove unprofitable to both employer and employe. Thoy suggest that the Council should advise the Union to adopt the Dunedin log, which, they understand, hae been adopted by Wellington and Auckland. If Christchurch adopts a special log for itself, it mu3t prove, they consider, detrimental to the Canterbury trade. It is expected that a strike or lock-out will probably follow.
