[BY TJSLKfIKAi'H.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellinoton, Friday. The Government have abandoned all hope* of having a big surplus since the Customs have persistently fallen off. The land fund also has dropped in an unprecedented manner. The Customs deficiency has greatly puzzled the officials, who are at a loss to account for it. It was supposed that the direct and indirect outlay on the Exhibition alone would have pulled the revenue up, but it seems to have little or no effect.
