LICENSING COMMITTEES.
AUCKLAND EAST. The quarterly meeting of the Auckland East Licensing Committee was held yesterday, at noon, at the Resident Magistrate's Court, when there were present Messrs. J. .1. Holland (chairman), J. Winks, J. J. Craig, and J. King. ... Applications for transfers were granted in the following cases:—Park Hotel, James Eraser to G. H. Easton (Mr. C. Buddie appeared for the applicant) ; Clarendon Hotel, Henry Meyer to Win. Lynch (Mr. C. Buddie appeared); Queen's Arms Hotel, E. C. A. Rew to John Darby (Mr. Clayton appeared); City Club Hotel, 0. B. Howard to S. Tootnan (Mr. Cotter appeared). Mr. Calder, on behalf of R. W. Brown, asked that the application to remove the license from the old to the new Greyhound Hotel should be adjourned for a month, as the building was not yet completed. After discussion, the committee granted the request, and intimated that if further adjournment at the end of the month was required they would grant it. This was all the business before the committee, but,' bofore adjourning, Mr. Holland announced that the Auckland East Committee were fully of opinion that they should meet the other committees, and discuss the question of permitting the sale of drink at railway refreshment rooms. Such a course would simply make these rooms drinking shops on Sunday evenings.
