MR. MONK AND COLONIAL PATRIOTISM.
,-,, v- . . TO THE KDITOE. ■■'. „ ... - Sib,—Candidly I admire Mr. Monk-fot his patriotic and nobleminded eentimenfcs, as expressed ab his meeting ab Devonpotfc on Thursday evening last; yet I must take exception to his remarks concerning New Zealanders taking part in such discussions as Irish Home Rule. Speaking for myself, I may say that it was because I admired* and do admire, the sterling patriotism of the Irish delegates to these colonies thab I took a humble part in extending to them.a cordial welcome. I have before to-day given my views in your columns as to the absence of patriotic feeling in New Zealand, and admire such men as Mr. Monk, who I hope will continue on 5 ev.en though he should go to his grave brokenhearted in his endeavour to awaken »a thorough national feeling. So much; however, yet remains to be done in this direction thab I am not inclined to go intc ecsbacies over what has been accomplished. —lam,&c. . E.F.Q>
