An immense amount of labour and expense has been involved in the preparation of this ■ Jubilee Christmas Number, which will be 1 in every respect the best publication of i its kind ever issued in New Zealand. With each copy will be given away a valuable and beautiful work of art, in the ( form of a chromo-lithograph printed in four- 1 teen colours on enamel paper. This exqui- ■ sitely executed production is a facsimile of a i water-colour drawing by Messrs Steele and i Watkins, the eminent artists, who were specially commissioned by the proprietors of the Aockland Weekly News. - The subject is a singularly happy one, and has been most effectively treated. It represents the first coming of tho Maoris to New Zealand, at Christmas, A.D. 1000. ( The figures are bold and skilfully drawn, and the colours are rich and artiati- 1 cally harmonised. For finish and beauty | and high class merit, it may be said without fear of contradiction, that this i coloured supplement far and away surpasses every tiling ever before attempted ' in the southern hemisphere, and is a work ] of art fit to adorn the drawingroom of any i home in the colony. The value of the edi- ] tion is estimated at £1000. The letterpress descriptive of the picture has been carefully prepared, and will deal in a readable and attractive manner with the Maori legends and lore appertaining to the early history ' of the colony. Altogether this special j Jubilee Christmas number of the AnOK- , land Weekly Nkws promises to mark an epoch in the history of colonial journalism, { and to command an enormous sale.
