VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.
"A" Battery'—-The, "A" Battery assembled at the Mount Eden rifle range on Saturday for volley and independent firing. There was a good muster of 38 rank arid file, Sergeant-Major Doughty and four sergeants, under the command of Captain Geddes. In the absence of Colonel Shepherd the firing was carried on under the supervision of Major Pirie and' Sergeant l»lajor Campbell, and the shooting was on the whole fair and satisfactory to the inspecting officer. They subsequently put in. a daylight drill, and were pub through a course of.company drill. • . ; v -" O " Battery. — The. "O'! Battery, which is at present encamped;at Fort Resolution, inarched to St. Mary's.Church yesterday morning under the command of Captain James, and headed by the Garrison Band, under Bandmaster Hunter. The men have now thoroughly settled down to the regular course of instruction'imparted to them night and morning, by instructors from the T?ermane nt. Artillery; , arid are acquiring a very good knowledge'of the management of the 40-poundere and the Nordenfoldt gun. They seem quite satisfied with;camp life, and. wiU remain' in camp until Saturday next, "being put' through a course' of' shot and shell ..practice 'before breaking catnip,* v •" ~ ' *.. ; v : (
