SHORTLANDSTREET, AUCKLAND. 1 The object of tho League is to obtain such a ' rectification of the system of management as will more effectually knit tho country producing districts wtth the centres of industry and population, and both with the outlets of trade. The following are the principal points which it Iras as vet adopted as ltd platform, viz.:— 1. The total abolition of differential rating. 2. The alx>lition of mileage rating, and tho substiution of a stage system. 3. The stage system adopted must be of such a nature as to give social facilities to districts and settlers far removed from a market. —. — 4. A. reduction in the charges for the conveyance of passengers and goods. 0. A simplification in the classification of goods. 0. A simplification and amalgamation of fcer- ' iniual, weighing, cranage, and other charges. In seeking a reformation in the administration of our Railways, all sections of the commnnity can unite, for all are equally Interested. It is therefore confidently hoped that the League will command that amount of public support and co-operation which the vast importance of its aim* entitles it to expect, ami tliat all who liave the true interests of the country at heart will actively assist the committee. Funds will be required to carry on tho work. The amount of entrance subscription tixed for the Auckland League is not less than live shillings (ss); it is, however, not intended to limit subscriptions to this amount, and several members have subscribed £!> 5s e;ich to its funds. The committee will be happy to receive subscriptions from all who are interested in its objects, even from such as may not desire to enrol themselves as members. Subscriptions and donations may be sent to the Treasurer, at the League's office. Please cross | cheques and money orders " Colonial Bank."
