Home papers mention that the ship Canterbury -was to hi /c failed for this port from London during last month, but no advices to this effect have yet been received by the local
agents. The ship Piako haa completed her ballasting, arid will haul out from her berth at the Qneen-streot Wharf this morning into the stream, in preparation for making an early start for Napier, where she is to load up with wool for London. It is probable that H.M.S. Opal will shortly nrrivo here en route for Ditnedin, where sho will be stationed during the Exhibition. The bivrqnentine Buster lias been fixed to load timber at Whangaroa, for Sydney, and will likely clear and sail for the timber port to-day. On Sunday the American barquentine Nettie reached Nelson after a passage of 120 days from New York. She brings a full freight of American merchandise, including 2100 cases kerosene and 106 cases tobacco, the bulk of her consignments beintf for this port, where she may be expected to arrive in about a fortnight. The s.s. lons, left port yesterday evening for Tauranga, taking a large quantity ox general cargo and a goodly list of passengers, including the Tauranga team of footballers. At the No. 2 Jetty the Samoan steamer Wainui is busily loading up with general cargo for the numerous island ports. She will sail to-morrow evening. Last evening the Northern S.S Co.'s eteaniors Clansman and Chelmsford took their departure for the North and the Bay of i'lenty respectively with freight and passengers. The barques Alice and Largo Bay have each nearly completed loading for New York and London, and will probably sail during this week.
The Union S.S. Co.'s Te Anau, from Melbourne F-nd .Southern ports, having left Gisborne at 8.30 a.m. yesterday, should arrive here about 10 o'clock thin forenoon. In our telegraphic shipping will be noticed the arrival at Port Chalmers of the Shaw. SaviH, and Albion Company's direct-liner lonic, from London via Plymouth, Capetown, and Hobart. She brings.4 saloon, 7 second cabin, and 8 steerage passengers for this port. Late last night the s.a. Wellington arrived from her.bi-weekly, trip', to W hangar with a large number of passengers and general cai'go. Ihe lenders for the repairs to the ship Carnarvonshire, now in Calliope Dock, which include stripping, recoppering, caulking, etc., were opened yesterday, and were found to range from about 1700 to £800. Those of Messrs. <i. Niccol and C. Bailey being _ the lowewt, and the length of the vessel's detention being an olnect of great consideration, in order to push the job on with the greatest despatch, these two tenderers decided to join forces, and will star: to-day to do the work conjointly.
