[BY TKLEGRAPII.— OWN CORRESI'ONDENT.] Thamks, Tuesday. A Com i j kxsation Court was formally opened to-day before Messrs. Northcroffr, Bnrstow, and McLaren, assessors. Messrs. Kenrick and Blades appeared for Mr. Henry Alley, of Hikutaia, who claimed £3G7 10s for land taken for railway purposes, while Mr. Buddie was present on behalf of the respondent. There is also another claim against the Government by Mr. Alley, but it is probable it will bo settled out of Court. The Court adjourned until 10 a.m. to-morrow to enable the land in disputo at Hikutaia to be visited by those interested. Flags wore hoisted at half-masb to-day upon the poppot heads of the Saxon and May Queen shafts out of respect to the memory of the late Mr. Joseph Howard, who was a director in both companies at the titno of his death,
