PONSONTJY WARD. the electors of ponsonby ward Are Invited to Meet MR. . J). F. EVANS IS THE PONSONBY HALL, THIS (WEDNESDAY) evening, Tub liTii Inst., At half-past seven o'clock, TO HEAR HIS VIEWS ON LOCAL MATTERS mo THE' ELECTORS OF PONSONBY JL W A It I). I buy to announce that in compliance with the request of numerous electors, 1 offer myself aa a candidate for re-election to a seat in the City Council. My views on local mutters are well known to most of you, yet I just wish to Htate that, during the Bve past years that 1 have had the honour of being your representative, I have devoted a large amount of time and energy to the requirements of tho Ward in general, but sanitary matters have always received my first and most careful attention, as 1 considered the health of the residents far more important than the cutting up (where necessity does not require it) side streets for tlio purpose of only reforming the same to permanent leveLs. In a Ward so extensive as this, extending as it does over an area of about 800 acres, there are .some parts, 1 regret to say, where the drainage is .still defective ; yet I am happy to state that this matter is now being considered by the Council, and 1 trust will receive immediate attention. To the great surprise expressed at the determined opposition to my return, and the reason for the dissatisfaction existing in Alma Place District, my answer is, read report in last night's Star on letter to the City Council re England-street. The bone of contention is that 1 did not get this street cut up and re-formed to permanent level; and, as a further proof, a prominent resident in England-street, fearing tliat I wa.i opposed to this work, sot the ball ot opposition rolling by engaging an electioneering canvasser to go round with a requisition for another candidate. As a. " little leaven ieaveneth the whole lump," the rest you can imagine. . I am informed on the best authority that some of those who signed the requisition would not have done so had they known it was In opposition to me. I now beg to solicit your VOTE and INTEREST, andxhould you return me again as your representative, I will in the future, aa in the past, endeavour to do my duty without fear or favour, and ever strive to promote the welfare of the City in general, and this Ward in particular. I am, etc., D. F. EVANS. ■pURB MILK. OURE MILK. ESSENTIAL FOR HEALTH. PATRONISE THE DAIRY FARMER, AND HAVE IT DIRECT FROM THIS FARM, 3.
