THE RIVER MURRAY.
Sydney, September 5. The right to the waters of the River Murray is now engaging the attention of the colonies interested. In the House of Assembly this evening Sir Henry Parkes, the Premier, said that the time had arrived when their rights to the waters should be asserted, and notice be immediately served on persons who established works diverting the
water for irrigation purposes, and that this step should be taken without reference to the other colonies. THE SAN FRANCISCO MAIL SERVICE. Sydney, September 5. In the House of Assembly, the discussion on the question of the renewal of the San Francisco mail service is so far generally favourable to the proposal that it is almost certain to be carried. \ NEW SOUTH WALES DEFENCE FORCE. Sydney, September 5. During a debate on the Military Estimates in the New South Wales Parliament, Sir Henry Parkes stated the colony possessed a volunteer force of over 0000 men, and :ould raise 30,000 men at short notice.
