AUSTRALIAN ITEMS. „ The Spring Hand (cue mile and a quarter), run at Tattoraall's Club Meeting on the 24th ult., was won by Bustler (Oat. 101b.), who boat a large field in the capital time of 2m. 1 Is. The Hon. J. White's three-year-old Singapore (Bst.) was mode a very warm favourite, starting at 2to 1; but he could not f,'ai)i a place. He has since receded greatly in the Melbourne Cup betting. Lomond has steadily advanced in the market for the Hawkesbury Handicap, until at last advices ato 1 was the best offer. The Victorian mare Tourbillon was at 10 to l,and 12 to 1 was forthcoming about Bernardo, while May Queen and Ellerdnle wore at 14 to 1, and 20 to '25 to 1 was forthcoming about any other. * - The betting on the V.R.C. Derby has undergone eomewhat of a change owing bo the poor form displayed by Singapore at Tattcraall'e Meeting. Dreadnought has eupplantod Singapore, 5 to 1 being offered on the field, while 8 to 1 is offered against Singapore. SiWerton ie still a firm favourite for the Melbourne Chip, 100 to 8 being the best prico on offer against the Ballarat representative, while Tradition figures at 100 to 6. Singapore has been knocked back to 100 to 4. The well-known Victorian trainer, Mr. J. Morrison, died at Dr. Fitzgerald's private hospital, Melbourne, on the 22nd ult.
