Tiik Council met at '2.30 p.m. THM WARD-HISLOP CORKKSPONDENCE. The Ward-Christie Committee reported that they wore of opinion that the correspondence of Mr. Hislop, Colouial Secretary, with Judge Ward merits the gravest disapproval.

PROQKIiSS OP BILLS. The Dog Registration Act Amendment Bill was read a first time. Tho Chattels Transfer Bill and the Lincoln Agricultural School Bill were read a second time. The Council roea at 5 p.m. till to-morrow. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. TOKSDAY. The House met at 2.30 p.m. I'OBT OK THAMIJS. Tho Port of Thames Definition Bill has been postponed till Thursday.

SOKTU ISLAND TUI'NK UAII.WAY. Tho North Island Trunk Railway Loan Application Bill was reported, read a third time, and passed.

VUBLIC WORKS. The Public Works Acts Amendment Bill was recommitted. Re the clauses relating to removal of gorse from roads, &c. , on the motion of Mr. Mitchblson the following proviso way inserted :—Provided such local authorities have reasonable grounds for be-lieving-that such plants have spread from such ad joining land or fence thereof. The Bill was then reported, read a third time, and passed. SKUONI) HEADINGS. The Certificates of Title Issue Empowering, the Waipa Order-in-Council Validation Bill uud the Ormiakatea Title Empowering Bills were each read a second time. Mr. MITCHKLSON moved the second reading of the Auckland and Onehungu Native Hostelries Bill. After some discussion it was agreed to. NATIVK BILLS. Mr. Mitch moved tho second reading of tho Ngiirnra and Waipiro Further Investigation Bill. There was considerable discussion on tho measure, and tho discussion was proceeding at the 5.30 adjournment Tbo House resumed at 7.30 p.m. After considerable discussion, the motion for the second refilling of the Ngarnra and Waipiro Bill whs carried on the voices. Mr. MiTCiitcLiOK moved the second roading of tho Native Land Frauds Prevention Act Amendment Bill as amended by the Native Affairs Committee. Agreed to. CIKKESK IMMIGRATION. \lr. MrrcuKi<sox moved tho second reading of the Chinese Immigrants Act Continuance Bill, which is a re-enactment of the measure passed last session. Agreed to. VALUATION Olf SELECTORS , LANDS. The Selectors' Lands Re-valuation Bill was further considered in commit toe. Mi.. RruHAUDsox moved the addition of a new clause, which was passed. Sir G. Oitiiv moved a new clause to the effect that in all cases where the occupation of lund selected is required, such coudition of occupation shall be held to have been complied with if the selector or holder hits occupied the land for three years in the manner prescribed by tho regulations under which it is held, and that after three years' ievidence on ench holdings it shall "be lawful for any such selector or bolder to sub-lot or sub-divide their holdings. The Hon. Mr. Ru.'hahdso.n objected to the clause as likely to imperil the final passing of the Bill. Messrs. Fish, Smith, and John MeKii.sztK also opposed tho clause. The motion was lost by ;$8 to 10. Mr. lloßiss moved a now clause in the direction of enabling village homestead settlers to obtain tho freehold in tho same way as settlers under the perpetual lease system. Messrs. Thomj-sok (Marsden), Moat, and L.vwry supported the clause. lion. Mr. Richardson oik! Mr. Bau.ance opposed it, no endangering the Bill. Tho clnuso was rejected by 30 to 25. The Bill was reported with amendments. OTHKK BILLS.

The Certificate of Title I«3iio Empowering Bill and Waipa Order-in-Council Validation Bill were passed without amendment.

The Native Land Frauds Prevention Bill was committed.

After some diacuesion progress was reported on the Bill. A number of Bills, denlt with in committee, were then read ft third time and passed. The Chinese Immigrants Act Continuance Bill was committed, read a third time, and passed. The House rose at 12.20 tv.ni.
