ANGLICAN HOME MISSION SOCIETY.

The annual meeting in connection with the Anglican Home Mission Society was held yesterday evening at St. Sepulchre's Schoolroom. Bishop Cowic presided.

The Rev. J. Haskldkn, organising clergyman of the mission, read the report, which stated that the income during the year had been £14-0 03 4d, or a sum of £28 14s 3d, more than that of the previous year. There was a small balance to credit.

Bishop Co win thought the report a satisfactory one, as it showed an increasing interest in the work of the Homo Missions. The work of the travelling missionary, Mr. Haselden, was spoken of every where in terms of satisfaction. Bishop Cowie mentioned an article in the Fortnightly Review by Lord Carnarvon, who there pointed out that it required a great effort on the part of people educated in England to realise, when in the colonies, the necessity for a special effort to carry on the work of the Church, support the clergy, and so on. In England, people of other bodiesthe Wesleyan body, or the Independent body, or the Presbyterian—were taught the necessity of providing tho funds needed to carry on the work of tho Church.

On the motion of Archdeacon Dudlky, the following gentlemen were appointed a committee of management: — Revs. J. Bates, W. Calder, J. Haselden, W. Tebbs, and P. S. SinallHold, and Messrs. W. McCullough, E. Hammond, W. C. Kensington, and the ex officio members (tho Standing Committee). A lecture on the *' History of the Anglican Church in this district" was delivered by the Rev. J. Haselden, who showed a number of limelight views of places interesting as scenes of missionary work, and portraits of the Rev. H. Williams, Bishop Williams, Archdeacon Maunsell, Bishop Selwyn, Bishop Patteson and Bishop Cowie. The pictures were clear and well defined, and the portraits'were excellent likenesses. A vote of thanks was given to Mr. Haselden.
